Dear Hillsdale Residents,

The Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission (who serves as the Health Department for the Borough) informed the Office of Emergency Management and Borough Administration that one of our residents tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first reported cased within the Borough.

The Health Department is currently working to conduct a thorough investigation to identify individuals with whom the patient may have come in contact with. Officials will then contact them in order to provide the necessary supports and guidance.

Hillsdale is a strong community, but this confirmed case is a reminder that we are not immune to the current public health concern and public health emergency. However, all residents can make deliberate efforts to flatten the curve of virus transmission by adhering to the Executive Orders issued by State authorities. Although dining out in restaurants is prohibited, I encourage you to support our local food establishments by using their take out facilities. These businesses are at great financial risk, and without our support may not be able to survive. They have supported community events and athletic teams in the past. Now it is our turn to help them.

Residents are also encouraged to stay home unless they are going out to buy food, to take a walk for exercise as an individual while practicing social distancing, or to see a doctor. This applies to children as well; parents must discourage them from congregating in public areas such as the downtown, parks & playgrounds.

Please continue to support one another during a challenging time for our local, state, and national communities. Be certain to follow recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, the New Jersey Department of Health, and Borough of Hillsdale.

I ask everyone to please be patient as the Borough continues to work to provide accurate information to the public. The road ahead will not be easy. It is likely to get worse before it gets better. We are resilient and will survive this unprecedented challenge if we work together to avoid spreading this virus.

Questions or concerns should be directed to the Borough Administrator, Christopher J. Tietjen. He will take your concern and circulate it to the proper Borough department or professional. The Administrator can be reached at 201-666-4800, ext. 1504 or ctietjen@hillsdalenj.org
