Patrol Division
As with any modern-day police department, the Patrol Division is the backbone of the Hillsdale Police Department. Our patrol officers provide service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty-five days a year. Patrol officers are the most visible and frequently encountered component of the department, routinely seen in uniform and operating marked and unmarked patrol vehicles while serving residents and visitors throughout the Borough.
The Patrol Division is led by Lieutenant Buesser and is organized into four squads. Each squad consists of three patrol officers and is supervised by one Patrol Sergeant, ensuring consistent leadership, accountability, and reliable coverage on every shift. The primary role of the Patrol Division is to respond to calls for service, which can range from medical and fire-related incidents to disturbances, domestic disputes, motor vehicle crashes, altercations, and situations where members of the public need police assistance. When officers are not responding to calls, they remain actively engaged in traffic enforcement, proactive patrol initiatives, and quality-of-life enforcement designed to keep Hillsdale safe and orderly.
The Hillsdale Police Department takes great pride in our patrol officers’ readiness and responsiveness. Because officers are continuously on patrol and visible throughout the community, they are prepared to respond at a moment’s notice when emergencies arise. The Patrol Division is made up of a highly motivated team of professionals who are dedicated to providing courteous, respectful, and compassionate service.
Patrol work is unlike any other profession—no two days are the same, and officers may be called upon at any time to handle high-risk situations where safety is a critical concern. For that reason, ongoing training is an essential part of the job. Our officers participate in regular training programs and professional development opportunities to ensure they remain prepared, informed, and equipped to meet the needs of a modern policing environment.
Above all, the strength of our officers lies in their commitment to the community and their ability to treat people with professionalism and empathy. We are here to serve. If you see something, say something.
