Traffic Division

The Traffic Bureau is one of the Hillsdale Police Department’s busiest specialized units. Responsible for monitoring the Borough’s traffic and pedestrian flow. The Traffic Bureau is led by Lieutenant Buesser and Officer Bruce. They oversee the enforcement of traffic laws, reviews motor vehicle crashes, and provides education on vehicle and roadway safety.

Members of the Traffic Bureau bring extensive training and experience to the unit. With a combined total of thousands of hours of classroom instruction and specialized coursework, Traffic Bureau personnel are highly trained in traffic enforcement, safety initiatives, and crash investigation.

On a day-to-day basis, the Traffic Bureau records and tracks traffic enforcement activity, utilizes radar for speed enforcement, and addresses the various safety concerns affecting motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians traveling throughout the Borough. The Bureau also coordinates and supports targeted initiatives such as the Car Seat Inspection Program, seatbelt safety checkpoints, Bicycle Rodeos, pedestrian safety enforcement details, “Click It or Ticket,” “End DWI,” and other traffic safety campaigns.

In addition, the Traffic Bureau plans and coordinates road closures and traffic control for special Borough events, including parades, community functions, and memorial services. The unit also handles traffic- and parking-related complaints and concerns that arise throughout the year.

Through diligent enforcement efforts such as DWI patrols and community-focused services—such as the Car Seat Inspection Program the Hillsdale Police Department’s Traffic Bureau plays a vital role in improving roadway safety and enhancing the overall quality of life in Hillsdale.
